Lilly raised her hand
"Mandrake is the name of a younger Mandagora plant. When pulled out of it's soil it's roots look like a baby, and it's wails can petrify, or even kill a human who's ears are not thoroughly protected"

| Hermione Raised her hand.
"A baby mandrakes screams cannot kill though professor. They can only knock a person out for a few hours. Now adults may kill with their screams if one is likely to come crossed with one that is screeming. You can tell if a mandrake is mature if they are moving into one others pot. This is similar to us humans when we get married and move in with our partner. Matured mandrakes are able to be cut down to make adraught in which will restore those who have been petrified. " She dropped her hand and looked at the professor after speaking.

| A Mandrake, also known as Mandragora, is a plant which has a root that looks like a human (like a baby when the plant is young, but maturing as the plant grows).Whenever unearthed, the root screams. The scream of a mature Mandrake when it is unearthed will kill any person who hears it, but a young Mandrake's screams will usually only knock a person out for several hours. Mandrakes are fully matured when they start moving into each others pots, similar to adult humans marrying and moving in together.A Mandrake's fatal scream is very similar to (if not the same as) a banshee's scream, which is also fatal. : | |

| The Mandrake Restorative Draught is a potion used to restore those who have been petrified or paralysed. It requires Mandrake roots that have been matured past the stage of adolescence. | |

| The Mandrake Restorative Draught is a potion used to restore those who have been petrified or paralysed. It requires Mandrake roots that have been matured past the stage of adolescence.
The Mandrake Restorative Draught was particularly useful to students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during the events surrounding the re-opening of the Chamber of Secrets in the 1992–1993 school year. The Basilisk was released from the Chamber of Secrets and attacked numerous members of the Hogwarts community, including Colin Creevey, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Hermione Granger, Mrs. Norris, Penelope Clearwater and Nearly-Headless Nick. These individuals suffered complete and total paralysis, almost mirroring death, and were restored to their normal state of being when Madam Pomfrey gave them this potion. This particular potion was created using Mandrake plants raised by Professor Sprout and the second year students at Hogwarts at that time.
